Help us increase access to medical equipment and supplies while reducing unnecessary environmental waste. How? Come volunteer at ReCARES in Oakland!
Low-income families are frequently faced with tough choices, having to prioritize expenses between essentials like food, rent, prescription medications, and incontinence supplies for their elderly family members. The sudden financial burden of acquiring crucial home-care equipment, such as wheelchairs or walkers, to assist a loved one dealing with health challenges can be overwhelming.
Meanwhile, the aftermath of a loved one’s passing often leaves medical equipment and supplies, ranging from bath equipment to diapers, unused and accumulating in landfills or garages.
ReCARES aims to address both of these issues by taking in donations of medical equipment and supplies and redistributing them to people in need. Our Oakland location is open every Friday from 12-4 pm. Our site serves approximately 100 people each Friday who come to donate and receive. We need volunteers to help us set up and break down the site, greet and assist donors and recipients, and sort and inventory incoming equipment and supplies.
No prior medical training or knowledge is necessary, and everyone is welcome to learn. Proficiency in languages other than English, particularly Mandarin, Cantonese, and Spanish, is highly valued. Join us in making a positive impact on the community and fostering a culture of care and support!
